James Lavino
I’m a licensed professional counselor and board-certified music therapist with specialized training in trauma-focused care, including EMDR.
I earned my master’s degree in Music Therapy and Counseling from Drexel University, where I was awarded the College of Nursing and Health Professions’ Artistry Award, and inducted into the National Honor Society for Allied Health Professions. I completed EMDR training through the EMDR Institute and hold additional degrees from Yale University (MA) and Boston University (BA).
My clinical experience includes work in inpatient psychiatric hospital, intensive outpatient programs (IOP/PHP), long-term care, and private practice. I’ve worked with adults across the lifespan as they navigate trauma, anxiety, grief, and emotional dysregulation.
In every setting, my goal has been the same: to provide grounded, structured, and responsive care that supports meaningful, lasting change.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years working as a composer for film and television. That background continues to inform my clinical work, especially in the areas of emotional attunement and nonverbal insight.
