James Lavino is a board-certified music therapist and counselor with experience working in a variety of mental-health settings including inpatient psychiatric hospital, intensive outpatient clinic, nursing home, and outpatient counseling office. He has practiced group therapy and individual therapy, and has worked with clients from age eight to 80.
In addition to his work at Equinox Therapy, James practices as a Resident therapist at Thriveworks (Center City, Philadelphia), where he offers verbal counseling and EMDR therapy as well as music therapy.
James is a trauma-informed counselor who takes a collaborative, person-centered approach to therapeutic practice. He is passionate about supporting each individual client according to their unique strengths and challenges.
James earned a Master’s degree in Music Therapy and Counseling at Drexel University, where he was awarded the College of Nursing and Health Profession’s Artistry Award, and where he was inducted into the National Honor Society for Allied Health professions. He also holds a Masters Degree in Literature from Yale University and a BA in English from Boston University.
