Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Do you see clients in person or online?
Both! At my Center City office I see clients from Philadelphia, the Main Line (including Bryn Mawr, Ardmore and Haverford), and beyond. And I also see clients from across the state using a secure telehealth platform.
How do I book my first session?
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation for prospective clients. This is an opportunity for us to briefly discuss your goals, for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapy process, and to determine whether we might be a good fit. To schedule a consultation you can click the "request appointment" button below, complete the contact form, or phone/email the office directly.
What happens in the first session?
The first session focuses on what brings you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. We'll review your history, discuss your goals, and begin to establish a direction for our work together.
Fees, Insurance, and Payment
What are your fees?
The standard rate is $200 for a 50-minute individual psychotherapy session.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance. However, many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement for therapy through their insurance company’s out-of-network benefits. If you wish to use the benefits that may be available to you, Equinox will provide a monthly "superbill" — a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Before beginning therapy, we encourage you to contact your insurance company and ask the following:
-
Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health?
-
Is there a deductible I must meet before reimbursement begins?
-
What percentage of each session fee is reimbursed?
-
How many sessions per year are covered?
What payment methods do you accept?
We only accept credit cards for payment. Before your first session you will be required to provide card details, which will be housed on the payment system's secure server. At no point will anyone at Equinox Therapy have access to or be able to view your complete credit card details.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards are accepted for eligible psychotherapy services.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Equinox does not offer a sliding scale. This helps maintain clarity and consistency across the practice.
Scheduling and cancellations
How long are sessions?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Longer sessions may be arranged when clinically appropriate, especially for EMDR work.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, though frequency can be adjusted based on your goals, availability, and the phase of treatment.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask clients to provide at least 48 hours notice for cancellations. Missed sessions, or sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, will be charged at the full rate.
EMDR
What is EMDR?
For information about EMDR, see our About EMDR page. We also offer other forms of trauma therapy for people in Philadelphia, the Main Line and across Pennsylvania.
Music Therapy
What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is a clinical, evidence-based approach that uses music to support emotional healing, self-expression, and personal growth. It can involve listening, creating, or responding to music in ways that are tailored to your goals. Experience or "talent" are not required. Music therapy can be especially helpful for people dealing with anxiety, trauma, depression, or stress, and it offers an alternative path to healing for those who may struggle to express themselves through words alone. It’s suitable for adults of all backgrounds, and sessions are adapted to each individual’s comfort level.
